You love ’em. You hate ’em. You don’t know where to start. You worship at their altar. All these things are true. One of the most polemic (and satisfying) devices in the horror genre — shaky cam/found footage flics.
Kian Doughty is a talented young actor who just performed in and co-wrote the Justin Zimmerman short film Made You Look which premiered at the Portland Horror Film Festival, and features some fantastic creature effects from Oscar winner Chris Walas. Kian brings his youthful take on a top 25!
Once again Hollyweird cranked up the almighty money-making hype machine and got to work on some very fine artistry. While it's got to be more and more difficult for graphic designers to cram all of the fear, fright, and gore on to an iPhone screen, designers have not yet thrown in the towel!
Notable horror book cover artist Deena Warner brings a new #1 title to the table, with an old friend in a red and black sweater. And a beat-up old hat.  And some knives on his fingers. With chunks of teenager meat on them.
We have reached a milestone recording episode, and also a good milestone date for horror movies. The first 25 years of the century, nay, the millennium, have passed. It is an opportune time to look back at the first quarter century and show our favorite movies of the past 25 years. We like our lists and rankings here at The Scariest Things!
Independent film producer and lifelong College buddy of Msoup and LightninLi, Mr. Christopher Ralph puts on his horror hat... and guess what?  Telecommunication and Film grads like the same things that genre fans like!  His top 25:
With the New Year on us, it is time to rate the best horror movies of 2024. What initially appeared to be a tough year for the genre turned itself around late. This year won't be as impactful as last year, but it had some terrific films at the front of the pack that fans will remember and cherish.
2019 was as year that was awfully similar to its most recent astrological brethren, 2018. There were some awfully big, earnest, and well-heeled horror offerings – while at the same time, 2019 served up the weird, the indy, and the quirky in spades!
Horror Movies have once again hit full stride, and 2022 oozed with originality and purpose. There were so many films to pick from, most of our crew, when assigned to pick a top 10 went with 11! (Cheaters!) That's how good it was this year. So listen in to our extended super sized Episode 159 and get wise to what was great in 2022!
The Soupman dispenses his scary wisdom for all's y'all! His recipe for a good horror movie?  One part grind, one part house, season with some 70's spice, a dash of Satanic oil (Often Italian), and serve it on a VHS tape.  The Scariest Things podcaster and author, Mike Campbell's weighs in with his Top 25.
2020 sucked but these films did not! Check out Liz's Top 10 Horror Films of 2020 year end list! Good riddance 2020! Hey 2021, I am ready to get off the couch and back into the theaters!
It was a great year for Horror Films, and without an individual film that was head and shoulders above the rest, making this a bit of a challenge to pick a top 10. There was a nice mix of film festival independent darlings, as well as some surprisingly good major studio offerings this year. If you haven't done so already, go listen to our favorite movies of the decade. I believe we are still in the middle of the golden age of quality horror stories.
If "meh" was a year...it'd be 2024. Post pandemic, political strife, the lingering effects of the writer and director's strikes, the rise of AI, and the violation of the most sacrosanct American icon -- Mickey Mouse. While there was a lot of great genre content being churned out in 2024, the highs weren't really high and the lows weren't terrible low. This year sat right in the middle of a rather tepid bell curve.
