Robert (Zed) and Eric’s (Lightnin Li) childhood pal, and OG Scariest Things influence Mike Fryer recalls his favorite spooky films. Damn you Mike! This is all your fault!
What makes YOU an expert? As in, tell us a little about yourself — what you do, current projects, links to your website, info about your recent film. Whatever you’d like. Go crazy! :
Mike: I spent my childhood traumatizing Eric (with copious assistance from Robert) with late-night movie-fests. Most of those films are more vividly etched into my psyche than movies I saw last year. I am a big fan of the literary genre (Lovecraft, Barker, King, etc.) and have watched many a wretched film simply because they were adaptations of a lovely dark story. In trying to remember my top 25 horror films, I realized how many I have missed. My boys are just getting old enough to watch the good stuff, so I expect to be exploring the realm of scarier things more thoroughly in the near-ish future.
Comments? Concerns? Cuss words? : There is never enough time to do the fun things in life, so that cannot be a criterion for deciding whether or not to do it. Time can and must be made for the important projects. I consider Eric’s recent creative endeavor to be one of those important projects and I would like to officially volunteer to help out where desired. Oh, and see if you can place this expletive– “I’ll be super-amalgamated!”
Editorial Note: Robert, Mike, and I all watched The Thing together on HBO at Mike’s house in 1983 when we were in Jr. High. Eric freaked out and ran to the den when the dog peeled like a banana. I’ve been a horror movie fan ever since! (Thanks Moikel! I’m eternally grateful.)
