Universal / Blumhouse is going back to a reliable well to theatrically release a pop-horror film: Freaky. The often re-booted classic kids comedy Freaky Friday is being genre-bent into becoming a horror film, from the team that did it once before with Happy Death Day.
According to Adam B. Vary at Variety, John Carpenter has been in discussions with Blumhouse to potentially reboot his masterwork, and my personal favorite movie of all time, The Thing. While this is pretty exciting news, the obvious question is, of course, is this a good idea? Reboots are risky propositions, and more than a few notable horror films have dropped the ball doing so.
Blumhouse is back on the scene with a brand new joint that's guaranteed to give you a mean case of the shivers. Don't look now, but the Vigil is coming your way on July 31, 2020.

The Saw franchise is getting a new twist as it is being produced, written, and starring Chris Rock. Yes, THAT Chris Rock. Oh, and some guy named Samuel L. Jackson. Him too. A potentially great career move for Rock, in a series that suggests that still has some legs left. (Though given that it's Saw, those legs may be gone by the end.)
A long-awaited graphic novel adaptation is hitting Netflix next week. The trailer captures a lot of the magic of the book, but will it go as dark as the comic was willing to go?
