Trailer Alert: Nope (2022)

ATMOSfx! Woo!
Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer in Nope (2022)

Yep. I’m in it for Jordan Peele’s latest offering: Nope. Check out the trailer here!

Jordan Peele’s anticipated mysterious third movie gives us a glimpse at this tale of an Alien visitation in a small rural California town. Nope boasts TWO Oscar nominees in Daniel Kaluuya and Steven Yeun in it, with Kaluuya reuniting with Peele after their breakout classic Get Out, which made Kaluuya a star, and Peele a major Hollywood player.

The trailer shows us Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya who carry on the legacy of being horse trainers for Hollywood, in a remote gulch in California. The opening sequence shows Peele’s comedy chops in full effect with a spunky and cheeky introduction. He also brings us the classic remote western UFO sighting, with a mysterious cloud showing up at the ranch.

Cool imagery abounds, with mysterious weather, colorful floppy tube air dancers, a small-town rodeo, and even short glimpses of the creepy little extraterrestrials. There is plenty of menace hidden in the clouds, and the producers are promoting this as a horror movie, so I am suspecting some nasty abductions and some unkind aliens. We come in peace is not a likely outcome.

The plot remains largely a mystery, and that’s probably for the best, as Peele’s sophisticated scripts are usually best experienced as spoiler-free as possible. Universal seems intent on keeping the finer details of the plot under wraps. We don’t even have character names for our leads yet on IMdB. The fact that it is a Universal film will ensure that this movie gets wide distribution. It is scheduled for release on July 22, 2022.

Can Peele keep his impeccable track record for quality horror going? I am eager to find out!
