Night Swim (2024) Review

Scary DVDs! Woo!

🩸 out of 🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸

Directed by Bryce McGuire

The Plot:

The Waller family buys a suburban house with a large swimming pool that the previous owners had not used in years (red flag). After rehabbing the pool they learn that it is fed by the water from a natural spring, and the family becomes plagued by supernatural forces…from the deep end!

The Players:

Wyatt Russell plays Ray Waller, father and ex-baseball player who was forced to retire when he was diagnosed with MS. Dad is the only one who benefits from the pool’s healing properties.

Kerry Condon plays Eve Waller, wife and school administrator who is eager to settle down and plant some roots after having to move often because of her husband’s career. She is forced to investigate the history of the house and the pool after the realtor finally discloses that a little girl drowned there years before.

Amèlie Hoeferle plays Izzy Waller, teen daughter who just wants to spend time with friends and boys without the damn swimming pool cramping her style.

Gavin Warren plays young Elliot Waller, who just wants to dive for change with dead old dad, but ends up being who the pool really wants.

Is Night Swim A Good Movie?

Night Swim is not a great movie by any means and only provides a few jump scares that are too ineffective to even merit its PG-13 rating (this is gateway horror, for sure). However, its main downfall is that the movie takes itself way too seriously. If the production team had embraced the fact that the story of a haunted swimming pool was just made to be a horror comedy, it could have been a crowd pleaser at the level of last year’s Blumhouse surprise: M3gan.

Night Swim is currently showing in theaters.
