Brand new Creepshow anthology series coming to Shudder!

Creepshow (1982) was a fun anthology horror movie back when Stephen King could do no wrong. It was composed of five different stories; all of them written by King, all of them loaded with a star-studded cast, and all of them directed by horror legend George A. Romero. There was a graphic novel published with the same five stories and everything — both movie and book — had that wonderful 1950s horror comics vibe.

It also happens to be where Greg Nicotero met his splatteriffic special effects mentor, Tom Savini, and the rest, as they say, is very goopy history.

cs-nicoteroGreg Nicotero, makeup effects genius and Walking Dead executive producer will be directing, executive producing, and just in general leading the charge for the new episodic collection of spookiness. Scheduled to appear on the subscription streaming service, Shudder, in 2019 each episode will bring to your screen a new, original story directed by a different filmmaker with Nicotero set to direct the show’s debut.

Shudder general manager Craig Engler had this to say about the new show:

Creepshow is one of the most beloved and iconic horror anthologies from two masters of the genre, George A. Romero and Stephen King. We’re thrilled to continue their legacy with another master of horror, Greg Nicotero, as we bring a new Creepshow TV series exclusively to Shudder members.

And Nicotero is understandably excited to be a driving force of the new show:

Creepshow is a project very close to my heart! It is one of those titles that embraces the true spirit of horror… thrills and chills celebrated in one of its truest art forms, the comic book come to life! I’m honored to continue the tradition in the ‘spirit’ which it was created.

As a fan of the 1982 film, I can’t wait to see what they come up with! Here’s hoping the show becomes a positive outlet for lesser known filmmakers to strut their stuff while also giving us tasty bites of delicious horror from some of our all time favorite writers and directors.
