Authenticity. Ithaqua oozes authenticity. In an era where low-budget films can't afford the real thing, and big studio projects use digital effects or even (shudder... AI...) to make the movie magic happen, director Casey Walker delivered a movie that feels tangibly real. It's cold because it truly is Hoth-level cold outside. Walker's labor of love, which took 14 years from concept to cinema, delivers one of the best horror films in a growingly stacked year for genre films. Casey was generous to share his thoughts on his movie with The Scariest Things.

Clown in a Cornfield is a return-to-basics teen slasher movie that gets all the little things right, but shares the same narrative limitations as its precedent source material. Sometimes hilarious, often bloody, this adaptation of a popular YA novel by Adam Cesare is tonally pitched still at a younger audience, and will likely be quite popular with the teen scene.

DC Universe ups the horror ante with Swamp Thing, a smart, brutal, and completely engaging tale that is both complex and comprehensible. Beautiful, and savage. Worth the price of subscription for sure. Too bad it's only going to be one season!

Embattled bride Grace is back, in Ready or Not 2: Here I come, and she's going to have to do it all over again. This time, her estranged sister will be by her side as a cadre of rival megalomaniacal families vie to murder her and claim the ultimate Satanic prize. This sequel is a bloody joy ride, and it extends the premise well, but a chunk of the magic of the first movie is missing.

Abigail pits a group of misfit criminals up against their captive, a little ballerina dancer named Abigail. Much to their surprise, she's a powerful vampire. The movie is action packed, with plenty of gore and laughs, but is a station to station production that while fun, telegraphs its moves well in advance. It's empty calories, but, for many fans, sometimes this is exactly what you crave.

Because high school can be... murder.
(That was my Horatio Caine impression. Not bad, eh?)
