Trailer Alert! Backrooms (2026)

Backrooms is a relatively recent creepypasta and “found footage” incantation originating from 4chan. If you’re of a certain age you may be simultaneously wondering what the hell is creepy pasta? What’s a Backroom? And should I spend more time on 4chan?

Good news! You don’t have to answer any of these questions because a brand new trailer for Backrooms just dropped.

ATMOSfx! Woo!
What exactly am I looking at?

Following the hot trend in horror — liminal spaces — Backrooms is birthed from the same sparse concept. Nothingness. Massive and limitless expanses. Unnerving silence. What originally began as a 4chan thread that explored these extradimensional spaces, YouTube filmmaker, Kane Parsons, had the brainy idea of turning this construct into a short film series.

Looking something like a lonely mall on its last legs, Parsons created dire and hollow images of years past. Instead of filling them with cloying nostalgia, he created an empty void for the viewer to fill with their own dashed hopes and dreams.

As of 2026, the original Backroom videos had been viewed over 73 million times. Not too shabby for something that really amounts to nothing. By 2023, A24 came calling for Parsons and his uninhabited aesthetic and announced that they were in business to produce the next liminal horror hit.

What do we mean by liminal? What’s a Backroom? How do you make something out of nothing?

Sit back and take in this brand new trailer and get ready to have all these creepy questions answered! Backrooms hits the theaters on May 29.
