🩸 out of 🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸
Directed by William Oldroyd
In 1964 Massachusetts, 24 year old Eileen (Thomasin McKenzie) is a secretary at a boys prison who lives at home with her father a retired police office and current drunk (Shea Whigham). When the prison hires a gorgeous and sophisticated new counselor Rebecca (Anne Hathaway) the two develop a freindship that takes a wicked turn as Eileen uncovers the darkness behind Rebecca’s glamorous facade.
Eileen is a moody noir thriller of the highest caliber that delves into the deepest, darkest parts of the human psyche. The performances from every single actor are award worthy and the look of the film, while bleak, is stunning. It is a fantastic adaptation of Moshfegh’s novel that will hopefully have viewers seeking out her other novels (My Year of rest and Relaxation is my favorite).
Neon Films will be releasing Eileen in theaters December, 1, 2023. Check out the trailer and add this five star film to your watch list.
