Ultraviolent sci-fi? Sign us up! Just when you thought 2020 couldn’t get any weirder, darker, and more complex — along comes Possessor. Directed by Brandon Cronenberg (offspring of THAT David Cronenberg), Possessor allegedly involves some high-falutin corporate espionage, some brain control devices, and a whole lotta’ assassinating.
Cronenberg Jr. isn’t exactly new to the biz either. Having directed the well-received 2012 joint Antiviral and a smattering of horror shorts, Brandon appears to be following in the old man’s footsteps with a body horror full court press.
Possessor premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020 and is largely cast with smaller name actors although, intriguingly, it does star Jennifer Jason Leigh. While not exactly known for horror, Leigh has stared in a number of grisly affairs including 2018’s Annihilation and 2017’s Amityville: the Awakening.
Other than a kick ass trailer, a pinch of techno music, and a disturbing poster, there’s not a lot to go on at this point. Here’s hoping the the image from the poster doesn’t turn out to be a red herring like the oft repeated disabled image from Midsommar that doesn’t really feature prominently in the film.
Either way the Scariest Things will keep our eyes and ears peeled for this freaky film. In the meantime peep the newly minted trailer.
