Horror in Hebrew! It’s a wonderfully twisty award winning Israeli horror short, with turns that you do not expect. Wicked, nasty and fun, check out the full short film here!
Directed by Asaf Livni
One of the joys of running a horror magazine website, is that new creators will reach out to us with their pet projects. Asaf Livni sent us his creation My First Time. For a short (9:34 minute) film, it sure packs in some surprises. Also, it’s the first Israeli horror film I think I’ve seen. The film has won some fairly impressive awards including “Best Short Film” at Fantasporto, and the “Wes Craven Horror/Thriller Award” at teh Catalina film festival last year.
Here is the official film description:
” Tonight Maggie is “doing it” for the first time. She meets Kobi, a guy cute enough for the purpose. They head for his apartment, Where Kobi will discover what Maggie’s real intentions are. “
When you think you’ve figured out what’s going on, Livni spins you around 90 degrees, and then again, and again… a remarkable achievement in such a short period of time. These aren’t twists that are so radical that they detract from the focus of the plot. They are clever tweaks that defy your set expectations. My First Time manages to thread that delicate needle of surprise and familiarity.
It is a sexy film, which is not surprising given the suggestive title, but that title doesn’t mean what you might think it means. And… head’s up… this little film is GORY. My hat is off to the makeup and effects team. Many short films shy away from gore effects, but this little fella manages to execute some pretty slick tricks.
My first time is, as a short film, not rated. But anyone viewing it should be aware that it is very violent. (And amusing!)
