Horror Movies We Are Looking Forward To in 2024: Episode 179

ATMOSfx! Woo!
We use this to pick the Horror Movies We Are Looking Forward To in 2024! Pure Guesswork!

The Scariest Things eagerly awaits the slate of films for 2024. We are thrilled to cast our eyes forward to the scary films to come. Sadly, if years prior are any indicator, our ability to spot the best of what is to come is unfortunately spotty. That isn’t to say that we won’t make the attempt to predict horror movies that we think we will enjoy!

Good news! Horror movies evaded the trap that had been laid in 2023. The combined Screen Actors Guild and Screenwriter’s Guild strikes of 2023 put potential audiences on notice that there might not be as many movies released in 2024. Horror movies defied the prediction, as they are traditionally fast to produce and independently made. You can shoot a horror movie in two months. Horror film producers shoot films unburdened by the massive scale of the big studio tent pole films.

So now, it falls upon the shoulders of your Scariest Things Critics to make some predictions. Having researched the upcoming slate of movies, we now get to opine. What will be good? What will suck? Last year, The Scariest Things’ predictions were mostly on point. Eric did very well. Liz mostly held up. Mike… well… Mike took some risks that didn’t pay off. 2023 delivered a grand slate of horror films and a lot of them. Check out Episode 177 for our favorite films from last year. Instead, If you prefer the scoop on the movies that let us down, you can listen to Episode 178. Or listen to both!

Every year, we tend to run into similar limitations when it comes to forecasting the next crop of movies. Festival Film darlings have yet to show themselves. Sequels, prequels, reboots, and rumored projects typically announce their dates before the independent films. This year has proven to be no different. Also, trying to sift through whether a new original idea is raw brilliance or a convoluted mess is a challenge. Who knew that M3GAN was going to be that good? Did anyone see When Evil Lurks coming? It is just as fun looking back at last year’s predictions as it is going forward!
