Aurora (2023) Review

Scary DVDs! Woo!

Intensity:🩸🩸 out of 🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸
A psychic has to save an unlucky trio after they run over the wrong old lady in this mid-length chiller!

Written/Directed by Dimitri Morantus

Aurora [Stephanie Charles; TV’s The Paynes and Ruthless] seems to be your average “psychic” hustling believers out of their hard earned dough. Giving folks just enough info to keep them coming back for more and timing her sessions just right so clients are forced to pay for a longer session to get the news from beyond that they so desperately want to hear.

Toby [Kalon Jackson; Voodoo Macbeth (2021)], Erica, and Dru [Chris Louis; 1BR (2019)] are a trio of pals on their way home from a roarin’ good shindig. Spirits are high and their driver, Erica [Kelsey Fordham], unfortunately might be, too. After fleeing the scene of a tragic car accident, the group of friends begin to fear for their sanity (and possibly their safety) as inexplicable things start to occur.

To the psychic they go!

As a mid-length short (about 37 minutes), Aurora moves along at a steady clip. Pacing is well balanced and never wavers as you watch Aurora (the psychic) come to terms with what she must do. Production values are also well balanced with great sound quality throughout and even some decent SFX sprinkled here and there. As tight as the budget was for this project, it seems the money was spent in all the right places.

Stephanie Charles

Stephanie Charles as the titular character does a great job and the camera loves her. The other standout actor being Chris Louis; that man’s facial expressions are worth a thousand words. Overall, though, the four primary cast members have great chemistry and seemed to be having a good time — aside from getting death threats from The Great Beyond, of course.

If you get a chance to catch Aurora, do so! It’s a quick watch and a fun ride. And remember to be careful around old ladies. You just never know.
