In light of all the insurrectionist lunacy that we faced in early 2021, it’s an incredible stroke of kismet that the horror gods would be throwing us the Forever Purge in the very same year. But they are.

Reimagined as a horror western and following pointed commentary concerning the state of U.S./Mexico border gripes, the Forever Purge is directed by long-time TV director, and first time feature length director, Everado Gout.

According to the brainy movie trust over at IMDB, the Forever Purge follows the general purge theme where “…all the rules are broken as a sect of lawless marauders decides that the annual Purge does not stop at daybreak and instead should never end.” Hmmm…sounds an awful lot like January 6, but we digress…

The Scariest Things have covered many elements of the Purge-universe and spoke of it often, lovingly, jokingly, but always with the understanding that it holds a fascinating place in horror lore. In much the same way the Planet of the Apes films were an ever-evolving commentary on race, class, and societal breakdown, the Purge films hold up that very same mirror to our cracked and grizzled society.

If 2020/2021 hasn’t given you enough dark realism, hold on tight, the Forever Purge will be here soon! Currently slated for a July 2, 2021 release, the latest Purge offering is sure raise some hackles!
