Babysitters and horror go together like peanut butter and chocolate. You just can’t have one with out the other. This freaky symbiosis is a tried and true trope that’s worked forever and there’s no reason to stop now.
In the most recent chapter of the ever-growing Conjuring universe we get babysitters, we get horror, and we get ANNABELLE! For those of you who have been chained up in the basement for the last six years, Annabelle is the super-creepy and super real doll that paranormal detectives the Warrens have locked away in their home. Annabelle, as it turns out, is a vessel for demons, creeps, spooks, and other nasties to enter our dimension. While this little slice of terror was kicked over in the first Conjuring film (2013), Annabelle got her her fright on in her first solo film in 2014.
As we discussed in the recent Annabelle review, as a whole Annabelle delivers some really solid scares, but there’s a pinch too much exposition left on the table regarding Annabelle’s satanic connection to the underworld — but we’re left to assume the Conjure-verse decided to save this hidden story for 2017’s Annabelle: Creation. Then again, maybe they didn’t because now we’re getting Annabelle Comes Home. OR, maybe, just maybe, this origin story will always be shrouded as a demonic doll mystery…
The newly released trailer for Annabelle comes home looks pretty darn creepy and pretty darn effective. Annabelle Comes Home hits the theaters on June 26. Keep your eyes peeled for a Scariest Things Podcast review!
