Liz’s Review: Sick

Fangoria! Woo!

★★★ out of ★★★★★
Directed by John Hyams

Parker (Gideon Adlon) and Miri (Bethlehem Million) are coeds who, like everyone in April of 2020 are leaving their daily routine and following shelter in place orders…but lucky for them, the place is Parker’s huge, luxurious family lake house. Masked up and armed with hand sanitizer and wiped down groceries, the two plan to spend the time alone with the nearest neighbor about 2 miles away and across the lake. However, their quarantine bubble is burst when a masked man enters the house…and I’m not talking about an N95!

Sick is a very solid entry to the home invasion and slasher movie cannons which makes sense because it was written by Scream‘s Kevin Williamson. It has great performances from newcomers and veteran actors both, and you really end up caring about the protagonists, who come across a bit annoying at first, as the film progresses. Sick offers some legit scares and creative kills and manages to have quite a sense of humor when tackling a subject that some are still not ready to laugh at.

Sick is currently streaming exclusively on Peacock.
