Affection is an ambitious sci-fi horror production that explores memory loss and another big trope that would spoil the punchline if I gave it to you. The reliable Jessica Rothe plays Ellie, a woman who awakens in a bed next to a man she doesn't recognize and a little girl who calls her mommy, whom she also does not recognize. The path to recovery proves highly problematic, as the more she learns about her condition, the harder it is for her to accept. There is something very wrong with her condition, and it has mad science undercurrents. If you buy the central premise, it's a wild ride. It's a punch line that makes or breaks the film for many viewers, and a subject of much debate. I found the twist intriguing, if a bit messy.
