Intensity 🩸🩸 out of 🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸
Directed by Ti West
Ti West gives audiences the film they deserve!
Years after the events of the Texas Porn Film Massacre that was X, our protagonist Maxine Minx (Mia Goth), is where she was always meant to be: Hollywood. Los Angeles is living in fear of The Nightstalker, but Maxine is fearless. She’s been the queen of adult films and about to break big because she has landed the starring role in a horror film. When bodies begin to appear that are not connected to the Nightstalker but are connected to Maxine, she takes matters into her own hands to ensure that nothing and no one stands in the way of her rise to fame and the life she deserves.
Ti West is a master at immersing his audiences in the time period of his films. MaXXXine is no exception; you’ll be washing the ’80s sleaze off for days after you leave the theater. However, a massive shift in tone and pace in the third act jolted me out of the film. Even if this was the first horror movie you had ever seen, you could have guessed this killer in the first 2 minutes of the movie.
Third-act misses aside, MaXXXine is a really good time at the theater thanks to the fantastic performances.
Mia Goth and Elizabeth Delbiki (as Maxine’s director, Elizabeth Bender) mesmerize as they show opposing sides of a femme fatale. Kevin Bacon (a private dick stalking Maxine) and Giancarlo Esposito (Maxine’s agent) chew up the set. At the same time, Halsey (Maxine’s friend) and Lily Collins (the star of the film Maxine is sequelizing), may have small parts but still give great face. Ti West, if you’re reading this, how about a spin-off film about The Puritan?

MaXXXine is currently in theaters worldwide.
