Part of the fun with this movie was identifying all of the traditional themes and tropes that Clown in a Cornfield used to build up its story. - Lost in a corn maze. (Again, an obvious but necessary element)
- The New Kid in Town
- The black guy gets it first (or nearly first)
- The creepy rural town with a dark secret.
- The townies are a cult.
- Don’t trust the adults.
- Snarky self-absorbed teens.
- When the parents are away, throw the biggest party possible. Barn Party!
- Detention as punishment
- The bitchy pretty popular girl
- The most powerful man in town is behind all the evil in town.
- The kid resents the parent for the loss of the other parent
- Chainsaws!
- The car won’t start.
- The phones don’t work. (And the characters don’t know how to use it.)
- The dad doesn’t trust the boyfriend
- The romantic interest turns out to be gay.
(Wait, what? OK, that trope wasn’t in the ’80s)
