
If it’s October, that means it is time for the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival. The legendary and beloved festival arrives in just a couple weeks so prepare your brains for cosmic madness! The 29th Annual H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival® of Cosmic Horror returns to all 3 screens of the Hollywood Theatre October 4-6th with Guest of Honor AARON MOORHEAD (of filmmaking duo, Benson & Moorhead – The Endless, Something in the Dirt).
Lovers of Weird Tales and Cosmic Horror can take in 60+ NEW independent short and feature films ranging from direct adaptations of stories by Lovecraft and his contemporaries to original stories that couldn’t exist without the influence of cosmic horror. Many screenings include Q&As with attending filmmakers!




The Weekend Program Highlights include 8 Feature Films.
- The World Premiere of THE LETTER, a lush, Lovecraftian horror, set in 1930s Dunwich.
- The US Premiere of THE DÆMON, by Matt Devino and David Michael Yohe.
- The US Premiere of DREAM EATER, a terrifying found footage film by Alex Lee Williams, Jay Drakulic, and Mallory Drumm,
- The West Coast Premieres of Nils Alatalo’s VOIDCALLER, a stark and chilling cosmic horror film from Sweden.
- Sci-fi cosmic horror thriller THINGS WILL BE DIFFERENT by Michael Felker (produced by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead)
- THE COMPLEX FORMS, (with fantastic creature effects!) by Italian director Fabio D’Orta. (The Scariest Things highly recommends this!)
- TIM TRAVERS & THE TIME TRAVELERS PARADOX starring Samuel Dunning and Felicia Day, written and directed by Stimson Snead (winner Audience Choice Award 2022).
- The Regional premiere of the true crime “documentary” STRANGE HARVEST: OCCULT MURDERS IN THE INLAND EMPIRE, from Stuart Ortiz and Colin Minehan (It Stains the Sand Red)
Guest of Honor Aaron Moorhead (known for Synchronic, Loki) will appear Saturday October 5th for a Keynote and screening with Q&A of his 2012 film RESOLUTION, and Sunday October 6th for a screening with Q&A of his 2017 film THE ENDLESS.
This year’s short films are an expansive lineup of literary adaptations of stories by Lovecraft, Robert W. Chambers, and Edgar Allan Poe, PLUS original Weird tales and Cosmic Horror from Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Sweden, Turkey, UK, and the US, representing the wide diversity of filmmakers creating cosmic horror cinema today!
In addition to the incredible film programming, the CthulhuCon portion of the festival will host Live Performances, Author Readings, Panel Discussions, a Cthulhu Prayer Breakfast, and to cap off the show, a special closing night presentation of the DUNWICH HORROR PICTURE SHOW with live score and performers! Author guests include Kenneth Hite (Tour de Lovecraft), Andrew Leman and Sean Branney of the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society, Molly Tanzer (The Pleasure Merchant), artist/game designer Jason Bradley Thompson, Brandon Seifert (Witch Doctor), K.L. Young (The Secret Language of Spiders), and more.






Each day features different short and feature films. Deluxe Ticket packages are available through the Festival’s fundraising Kickstarter until September 22nd. Single Day and Full Festival passes available this week at the Hollywood Theatre (website and box office). Early bird ticket prices through 9/23.
