Already hailed as the scariest movie of 2024, the much anticipated Longlegs will be released theatrically on July 12. The Neon marketing push is going all-out in preparation for the film, including four startling posters and a banger of a trailer. The trailer spoils nothing but sets an ominous tone for what will come.
There has already been some grumbling about the lack of great studio horror productions so far in 2024. A cryptic campaign by the producers of Longlegs looks to put an end to this perceived drought with the Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage-headed horror-thriller Longlegs. Oz Perkins looks to continue his streak of stunning-looking horror films, following The Blackcoat’s Daughter and Gretel and Hansel. With Longlegs, Perkins may be hitting a peak.
The early buzz has been near hyperbolic, as five-star ratings and claims of how terrifying this movie is have slowly worked their way through horror fandom. It helps that the film stars two bankable horror veterans that fans will recognize.
The producers have kept a pretty tight lid on the film’s secrets. Surprisingly, this film was not in heavy rotation in the film festival circuit, even though it was on the wish list of many horror festival attendees. It debuted at Beyond Fest at the end of May. Since then, the film’s marketing has included cryptogram messages, phone numbers, and these creepy posters. Despite all the clever marketing materials, the story has been thankfully light on spoilers.
