Trailer Alert: How To Kill Monsters (2023)

ATMOSfx! Woo!
Lyndsey Craine

To say that I’m excited to get my eyeballs on this film would be grossly understating just how much these ocular orbs want to pop out of my head, leave me behind, and ransack the director’s house looking for the full release. Writer/director Stewart Sparke and co-writer Paul Butler have put together what looks to be a splatterful, monster-driven, gorefest of sheer cinematic joy.

If you’re lucky enough to be anywhere near Cineworld Leicester Square in London on August 25th, you need to grab tickets and catch the world premiere right along with the cast and crew. Get them soon, though! I’ve heard the theater is very nearly full already.

That’s enough outta me, though. Check this out:

And here’s the official press release to get all the nitty gritty details:

Dark Rift Horror and RO Pictures are thrilled to share the blood splattered teaser trailer and stunning new poster art for How to Kill Monsters, a practical FX driven horror/comedy which will see its World Premiere at FrightFest on 25th August.

The sole survivor of a blood-drenched massacre must team up with a rag-tag bunch of rookie cops and lawbreakers to defend a police station from an invasion of Lovecraftian monsters from another dimension.

With a menagerie of monsters realized entirely with practical effects and buckets of fake blood and guts thrown in for good measure, How to Kill Monsters will scratch the itch of horror fans craving a throwback popcorn horror movie that delivers thrills, kills and laughs in equal measure.

Director Stewart Sparke (Book of Monsters) declares How to Kill Monsters “a love letter to the 80s and 90s horror movies that I grew up watching on VHS.” With the trailer showing clear influences from classics like Evil Dead 2, Gremlins and Hellraiser, Stewart promises that the movie will inject “a dash of British humour in the vein of Hot Fuzz and the self-aware twists and turns of Scream to deliver genre fans a blood-soaked popcorn horror movie that feels both nostalgic and fresh.”

The movie’s eye-catching new poster art was created by Uncle Frank Productions, whose previous work includes artwork for international home video releases of Terrifier 2 and Resident Evil, as well as Blu-ray artwork for Arrow Video’s release of Dolls, Cellar Dweller, Robot Jox, The Dungeonmaster and Arena.

How to Kill Monsters will premiere at FrightFest on Friday 25th August in Cineworld Leicester Square, London with the cast and crew in attendance. FrightFest is the UK’s biggest horror & fantasy film festival, running from 24th – 28th August and this year marks its 24th edition. Tickets to the world premiere of How to Kill Monsters are available to buy HERE.

How to Kill Monsters is directed by Stewart Sparke, who co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Butler and is produced by Cal O’Connell. The film is a co-production between Dark Rift Horror and RO Pictures. Starring Lyndsey Craine (Book of Monsters, Eating Miss Campbell), Arron Dennis (Zomblogalypse, Book of Monsters), Fenfen Huang (Now You See Me 2, Operation Red Sea), Daniel Thrace (The Creature Below, Blood Myth) and genre favourite Nicholas Vince (Hellraiser, Hellbound, Nightbreed).
