Liz’s Review: Night Teeth

ATMOSfx! Woo!
★★ out of ★★★★★

Directed by Adam Randall

Benny (Jorge Lendeborg) is a student just trying to make it through class and make an epic mixtape. His older brother Jay (Raul Castillo) is a chauffeur who also happens to be in charge of keeping the peace in a hundred-year-old agreement between the humans and vampires within the boundaries of an LA neighborhood. When mid-level vampire Victor (Alfie Allen, oh hey, Theon!) decides to break that truce, Jay can’t fulfill his chauffeur duties for the night so Benny steps in.

The customers? Two hot chicks Zoe (Lucy Fry) and Blaire (Debby Ryan) who tell him they have a list of parties they have to hit but…they have to do it all before the sun comes up. As Benny drives them from place to place he realizes that these are no ordinary girls out for a good time but blood-sucking vamps! Nothing new in the already overpacked vampire genre follows…

Night Teeth starts out with lots of potential: it’s fun with cool cars, good music, and the style of a slick music video, but it runs out of gas in the second act and continues to run on fumes until it mercifully comes to a halt. It has way too much exposition (including a 5-minute scene of here is what we’re doing and why) and forced romance (these two are no Star and Michael!) for this reviewer. If you want “get off my turf” vampire movies go watch Underworld instead.

If you decide that this is a ride you want to take, Night Teeth is available to stream on Netflix.
