Oh, Hollywood and your ever-clever marketing minions. You really had us at “…contemporary take on the classic horror film Rosemary’s Baby.” That just makes our hardened horror heart go pitter-patter.
False Positive, staring some serious Hollywood fire-power in the form of Justin Theroux, Pierce Brosnan, and Sophia Bush, looks to be a pretty interesting peak in to the kooky paranoia surrounding motherhood and parenting.
The film, pulled together by known horror stalwarts over at A24, follows an extra creepy fertility doctor who’s got a medical degree in deviancy. Not to be confused with Dr. Butcher M.D., Dr. Hindle is played by the eternally hunky Piece Brosnan.
We here at the Scariest Things Podcast are all for modern takes on the classics and creepy babies/kids, but buyer beware, there’s a lot of clunkers out there. Whether it’s 2014’s Lyle or 2020’s Brahm’s: The Boy II, this is often a dicey and incomplete sub-genre filled with also-rans. But as the trailer convincingly says “…this pregnancy shit is no joke, right?”
False Positive hits the streets, or rather Hulu, on Friday, June 25. Until then, sit back and dig this homage (possibly) to the great Rosemary’s Baby.
