We love horror for a lot of reasons. The allegories of the things we fear. The symbolism and storytelling tradition. The intensity of life and death struggle. But when it really comes down to it, horror fans love the blood and guts! Saying otherwise suggests you may need to check your horror fan credentials at the door.
In this episode, The Scariest Things unveil some of our favorite gory moments in horror movies. Some of the most outrageous and flinch-worthy scenes we’ve ever had to endure. We’ve got a good mix of the super-familiar and the hard to find.
Does a horror movie need to be gory to be good? No, of course not. Does gore always equate to scary? Nope. But when gore is done well, it makes the movie unforgettable. These moments may stick with you long after you forget the plot or the actors. The visceral has a way of staying with you.
For the most part, we picked movies that took the gore seriously. There are many movies that go for the laugh with the gore. That can be lots of fun, but the truly effective moments are painful to watch and make you want to turn away. But you know you can’t!
