Trailer Alert: Little Monsters (2019)

ZOMBIE ALERT:  Two decidedly different performances (well three, technically) from the same actor in two horror films in the same year?  Say it ain’t so! Lupita Nyong’o, fresh off her stint in this year’s super-divisive film, US, is headed back to the big screen with Little Monsters.

ATMOSfx! Woo!
Lupita Nyong’o digging deep in to her acting chops.

But it’s not just another horror film, it’s a new zombie film!  And it’s not just another zombie film, it’s a hot new take on a trope that’s getting a little – um – long in the tooth.  Little Monsters is directed by Australian director, Abe Forsyth, who appears to take the zombie trope, dust it off, he adds a pinch of Shaun of the Dead, and, for good measure, a dash of George Romero social commentary. Lupita Nyong’o plays Miss Caroline, a pre-school teacher who’s forced to deal with a zombie outbreak in the middle of a visit to a manufactured kiddie farm.   As if surviving zombie outbreaks isn’t enough, Miss Caroline must also protect the kids’ fragile psyches, assure them that all is well, and get them home to their loving parents – who may/may not have already become ZOMBIES.

It’s not clear if this film will deliver on all the same levels as Shaun of the Dead, or if it will give Zombieland II a run for its money, but it’s safe (read: very safe) to say that  Lupita Nyong’o is deservedly the hot stuff right now. If she turns in half the performance that she did in Jordan Peele’s US, then we are in for a bloody treat!

Check for a wider release on November 15, but in the meantime get to chomping on this fun little (Monster) trailer!
