Horror TV News: Creepshow coming to Shudder

Fangoria! Woo!
Walking Dead director and effects wizard, Greg Nicotero, is picking up the baton from George Romero and Stephen King, bringing a new Creepshow anthology show to Shudder! (Trailer linked here!)

The Creeper is back! Shudder is proving one more reason for you to subscribe to their service. There may be no bigger mover of the horror genre today than Shudder, the horror focused streaming service. In addition to streaming all of the great independent horror movies that play the festival circuit, they have been developing some terrific original programming. Shudder has produced many of their own shows, including The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, The Core, Horror Noir and now they are producing a premium format TV show of Creepshow, a continuation of the beloved 1984 George Romero and Stephen King anthology film.

Shudder is an AMC run company, so it comes as little surprise that Greg Nicotero slides over from his duties on The Walking Dead to helm this series. AMC’s tradition of top-notch original work including The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, The Terror, Preacher, and Madmen infuses a good bit of confidence about the pedigree and production value of this program. You can look forward to seeing stars Adrienne Barbeau (who awesomely played Billie in the movie), Bruce Davison, David Arquette, Jeffrey Combs, Tricia Helfer, and Giancarlo Esposito taking turns in these episodes. David Bruckner and Tom Savini also offer their directing talents to the series.

Interestingly, neither Savini, nor Nicotero is credited for the makeup or effects for Creepshow, so I’m guessing what we’re getting are their prodigies. Tom does, after all, have a famed school for makeup effects, and the influence of both of these men run very deep.

The trailer shows off the flavor, utilizing the EC Comics stylizations, just like the feature. Deep blues and bright reds, with pops of comic transition scenes. Also encouraging is that being on Shudder, they can really go for the gore if they want to, and I suspect if they hold true to the movie, they will go for a lot of classic old-school ghoulish gore.

“It’s the most fun you’ll have being scared!”

Creepshow will be launching in September 2019, exclusively on Shudder.
