Horror Movie News: NOW STREAMING!

We have been lying in wait for a number of these films to show up streaming and I’m happy to say that they’re now available. You can stop your video pirating!

You’ve heard us yammer about these films on the Podcast, and seen our reviews (and if you haven’t I’ve linked them to this post). Some of the films here arrived day and date with the theatrical release, and some of them were working their way through the film festival circuit, and have taken their own sweet time making it to the streaming services. Others still were foreign films looking to find a distributor, but wait no longer! A number of our favorites have arrived for you to watch in your living rooms.

I recommend, if you have not done so, get a Shudder account, because many of these films are available free, with the subscription. Worth it! And they’re not even paying me to say that! (Hmmm…)

So catch up on what you missed. Here’s some of the notable movies that have recently arrived to Amazon, Shudder, and Netflix. (Links are to Amazon, but if it’s available there, you can almost certainly get it from iTunes, YouTube, Vudu, or Hulu. take your pick!)

Suspiria

Luca Guadagnino’s bold re-imagining of Dario Argento’s Giallo classic. Featuring top notch art direction and a stellar performance from Tilda Swinton.

Tumbbad

The great Indian Unicorn of a horror movie is back playing on Amazon, after making a brief appearance, and then quickly pulled. Go see one of the most original haunting films of 2018. Absolutely gorgeous and wholly Indian. Our Review.

St. Agatha

A movie that The Scariest Things has talked a lot about is finally available for viewing. THIS is the scary nun movie you should see. A powerful showing from Carolyn Hennesy as the Mother Superior who is up to absolutely no good and nasty deeds. Our Review.

Overlord

An adrenaline-filled action horror movie that plays like a video game movie done right. Lots of familiar tropes, excellently executed, and some great splattery action. C’mon, who doesn’t want to see Nazi Zombies tangle with G.I.’s in WWII? Our review.

Big Legend

Kevin Makely and Todd A. Robinson tangle with Bigfoot, shot on location in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, near Portland. This movie debuted at the Portland Horror FIlm Festival last year. Our Review.

Guai Guai Guai Guaiwu! (Mon Mon Mon Monsters!)

Recently reviewed on TST, this Taiwanese production takes some cues from A Clockwork Orange, with a bunch of teenage miscreants who bully their way to the top of the food chain, only to find their match in a couple of ghoul sisters, pitting monsters vs. monsters. Our Review.

Horror Noire

Just in time for Black History Month! Mike just finished reviewing this Shudder Original piece, and it’s brilliant. This engaging documentary is told from the legends of black horror cinema: Jordan Peele, Ken Foree, Rachel True, Keith David, Rusty Cundieff and more share their perspectives on African Americans in horror cinema. Enlightening! Our Review.

Housewife

Are you up for some trippy cosmic horror? Emerging director Can Evernol brings you a very strange cult horror film, with some brilliant art direction, and a captivating performance by David Sakurai as the charismatic cult leader. Beware, the film has some fairly loopy logic to it. The end is a mind blower! Our Review.

Velvet Buzzsaw

A Netflix production, with a stellar cast (Jake Gyllenhall, Renee Russo, John Malkovich, and Toni Collette) and a satirical edge, this movie just came out day and date with the theatrical release. A bit like an overcooked art exhibit, the movie left Mike feeling a little indifferent, and in need of that fabulous cast to give us a little more character. Our Review.

Satan’s Slaves

Indonesia brings us a surprisingly emotionally resonant family horror tale. The title and the poster may say Grindhouse, but this is a serious movie, a Poltergeist by way of Jakarta. This movie has me wanting to dive deeper into Indonesian film. Our Review.

The House that Jack Built

Caveat: TST has not yet reviewed this film. BUT, you may know of it by reputation. Lars Von Trier is one of the biggest button pushing directors around. (Antichrist, Nymphomaniac, Dancer in the Dark) and his most recent movie featuring Matt Dillon as Jack, a serial killer, is no different. A polarizing film. Want to see it for yourself? Be forewarned, it’s not for the timid!
