Liz: What makes me an expert on horror movies…Nothing! I am not even close to an expert but I am a passionate fan who loves the shocking, creative, original and yes, even the silly films that make up the horror genre. My list is truly personal, from the first horror movie I ever saw with my dad at age 5, to a movie I saw at a festival this year, to one that took me 3 tries to finish (Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer) because of one scene. My tastes run the gamut. Narrowing down the list to just 25 films was hard but these are the films I’ll return to again and again- some are old friends and some are new. Most of these are the ones I will watch again and again- the kind where if they’re on, you stop what you’re doing and just watch- no choice, who cares that you’ve seen them a million times! Some are classics of the genre and some are destined to be; all of them are films that have had an impact on me and I hope you enjoy them too.
For the past 2 years, I have served on the selection jury for the annual Portland Horror Film Festival which has exposed me to lots of new and talented filmmakers in the horror genre who will be ensuring thrills and scares for years to come!
