Alfie Allen, Keegan michael Key, Thomas Jane, Augosto Aguilerra, Boyd Holbrook, and Trevante Rhodes in The Predator.So… a new Predator movie is heading our way. It’s got a great cast… can it deliver a great story and good scares?
We have talked about Predator before on The Scariest Things. Is it a horror movie? Our consensus was that it was more of a science fiction/action movie that has some horror elements in it, but a new Predator movie still warrants some coverage from us. The Predator is being directed by Shane Black, who not only directed Iron Man 3 and The Nice Guys, but also starred as the Hawkins in the original Predator movie with Mr. Schwarzenegger. He has assembled an intriguing cast which includes Boyd Holbrook, Sterling K. Brown, Thomas Jane, Jake Busey, Keegan Michael Key, Alfie Allen, Yvonne Strahovsky, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Augosto Aguillera, Jacob Tremblay and Edward James Olmos. Certainly plenty of talent. And Predator fodder.
But, what is he going to do with the eponymous predator? Put it in the suburbs, it seems. And according to the trailer, it looks like it is summoned by a kid playing with things he shouldn’t be messing with. Similarly, there are some shady scientists who are also messing around with some genetic things they shouldn’t be messing with, and it appears that a hybrid predator is in the offering. Sooooo… I’m thinking… that stellar cast had better overcome an underwhelming script because I’m not sure that I like the premise.
Then again, this is only a teaser trailer. The movie is not yet rated (Please be R!) and will be released on September 14.
