Movie Posters We Love: The Stuff (1985)

I scream, you scream, we all scream… for the Stuff.

Fangoria! Woo!
stuff_poster_01If you needed a synopsis, it’s listed right there in an exposition-heavy description.  I like that it’s like an FDA warning.  If you suffer from loose stool or dizziness, don’t eat the Stuff .  It’s actually a better movie than you would expect, given the subject and the minuscule budget… a delicious mysterious white goo that turns you into an insatiable zombie-like being whose sole desire is to consume more of THE STUFF.  Directed by underrated filmmaker Larry Cohen (Q The Winged Serpent, It’s Alive, Special Effects) and featuring a decent cast with Cohen favorite Michael Moriarty, Danny Aiello, Paul Sorvino, and Garrett Morris (Yes, he actually did something outside of SNL!), The Stuff had a bit of satire to it, poking fun at capitalism and consumer gullibility.

And, it’s pretty gross.  The transfiguration is pretty icky… if a bit rubbery looking.

The Stuff
Oooooo! What happened to Garrett Morris’ mouth? That image is gonna stay with you.

And, it’s got a bit of the Blob going on, which I endorse heartily! It’s food that fights back.  Nom nom nom!

When your food plays with you…

I strongly remember the actual VHS box cover, from when I was a kid going into the video store.  Yeah… that’s the Stuff.
