Horror Movie News: Anna And The Apocalypse Is Coming To The US

A zombie apocalypse Christmas movie musical? Hallelujah!

Alas, the bittersweet tang of early news! This is like finding the most perfectest Christmas present ever hiding in your parent’s closet! In February. And now you have to wait months and months before you can officially freak out and run around the house, cheering at the top of your lungs, while holding the wondrous gift high over your head in triumph.

Not that I’ve ever done that. <..cough…>

Let’s move on.

I’ve been waiting for this movie for a long time now. It finally got its world premiere last September in Austin, TX at Fantastic Fest 2017. In October, Anna and the Apocalypse had its European premiere at the Sitges Film Festival where it picked up “Best Feature Length Film in the Midnight X-Treme Section”. And, in January, the wonderful undead toe-tapper was picked up for North American and Latin American distribution by the also-recently-returned-from-the-grave Orion Pictures. It’s a match made in Heaven! That, I guess, came back to life and now shuffles around trying to eat people. Hooray!

What’s it about? What do you mean, “what’s it about”? Zombie apocalypse Christmas movie musical isn’t enough for you? Fine.

Since it’s their first feature film, I’ll let Blazing Griffin studio tell you:

In Anna and the Apocalypse, a zombie apocalypse threatens the sleepy town of Little Haven – at Christmas – forcing Anna and her high school friends to fight, sing and slash their way to survival with a fast-spreading undead horde in relentless pursuit. Teaming up with her best friend John, Anna and her crew fight their way through zombified snowmen, a ravenous bachelor party and high school hormones to try to save family and faculty alike. But they soon discover that no one is safe in this new world, and the only people they can truly rely on are each other.

Filmed in Scotland, and directed by John McPhail, the movie stars Ella Hunt (Our Robot Overlords) as Anna with Mark Benton (The Halcyon) as her father, Tony. Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones) plays the bad guy, Savage.

Orion’s confirmed the obvious by saying they’re planning on a 2018 holiday release, but nobody’s mentioned any specific dates yet.

Needless to say, Christmas just got a whole lot merrier.
