Horror Travel News: The Moroccan Hills Have Eyes

ATMOSfx! Woo!
station

A shortcut? What a great idea! Thank you, creepy gas station attendant!

Once upon a time (a.k.a. 2006), Alexandre Aja — fresh from directing the home invasion tour de force, High Tension (2003) — directed a remake of a delightful Wes Craven film called, The Hills Have Eyes (1977). Should the movie have been remade? That’s a can of worms we’ll leave squirming in the dark for now. The point is, hey look! It’s the creepy gas station from the movie!

Apparently, when you build a movie set in Morocco, you can just leave it sitting there when you’re done with it. And that’s what happened with the gas station set from Aja’s remake. Supposedly, it’s sitting somewhere along the main highway out of Ouarzazate either on the way to Marrakech or as you’re heading to Agadir. I was all over the N9 and N10 in Google Maps, though, and I couldn’t spot it. So, if you’re going to make a trip out to see it, you might have to stop and ask a local.

Just be careful if they offer up any shortcuts…
