Horror Movie News: Sundance Horror Hit – Hereditary is Generating a Buzz.

Fangoria! Woo!
Hereditary

The biggest horror movie news out of the 2018 Sundance Film Festival is A24’s Hereditary, lauded by many critics as something truly scary.

Last year at Sundance, the notable indie horror flicks were XX and Killing Ground, this year the buzz is much bigger for Hereditary, and it appears that the wind is going to be at the back of this film with all the positive critical praise it has been getting.

The official storyline per A24 is:

“The Graham family starts to unravel following the death of their reclusive grandmother. Even after she’s gone, the matriarch still casts a dark shadow over the family, especially her loner teenage granddaughter, Charlie, whom she always had an unusual fascination with. As an overwhelming terror takes over their household, their peaceful existence is ripped apart, forcing their mother to explore a darker realm in order to escape the unfortunate fate they’ve inherited.”

Toni Collette is the old woman’s daughter, Annie, and apparently, the crazy apple doesn’t fall very far from the tree, as Annie’s obsessive coping mechanism gets expressed through her creating of a disturbing dollhouse that reveals her looming loss of sanity.  Creepy dollhouse?  Sign me up!  All indications point to a wild and violent third act that is full of surprises as well!

My gut instinct is that we have a Babadook-like movie coming our way.

Variety’s Owen Glieberman is so impressed that he is starting a way-too-early Oscar push for Collette.

The New York Post’s Sara Stewart raves that it restores her faith in horror movies:

The Verge’s Tasha Robinson has called the film “Pants wettingly scary“! (Nice)

Hereditary will be released on June 8, and has not yet received a rating, but based upon the IMDB parental rating guide, it certainly will be R.  I wish there was a trailer to share, but The Scariest Thing will keep you posted when it drops!
