Horror Movie News: George Romero’s Daughter is Writing a Zombie Movie!

Tina Romero is writing Queens of the Dead, a rather unusual homage to her father’s legacy.

Sadly, we lost George Romero last year.  R.I.P. George, we’ll miss ya. (sniff!)  However, the legacy lives on with his daughter Tina.  For Tina, a Brooklyn DJ by trade, this will be her first foray into film, with Queens of the Dead.  In an interview with the music and makers site The Saunder, Tina describes her new project as:

“Queens of the Dead is a fusion of two huge parts of my world: zombies and Gay nightlife. It’s a tribute to my father as well as my entrée into the genre he grandfathered. I can’t say too much yet, but what I can tell you is that this film will have all the hallmarks of a George A. Romero classic: farce, politics, heroes, assholes, and most importantly, herds of silly and slow moving walkers that you can’t help but love. But I’m doing it Tina-style, and bringing the glitter, choreography, queers & queens.”

So, it would be a zombie film bearing some familiar tropes, and some decidedly new takes on the genre.  Bloody Disgusting reports that she is collaborating with her father’s longtime collaborator, gore-master Tom Savini, for a horror web series, and it appears this is the format in which Queens of the Dead will appear. Will this actually happen? Stay tuned!  And speaking of tunes, on that Saunders Blog, you can upload DJ TRx’s (Tina’s) Spotify list.
